I Just Want My Medical Information! Promise!

Thanks for your patience in allowing me to clear up another misconception!

Adoptees, in search of their first families, who speak on television and radio talk-shows... about JUST wanting their medical information ("Mom, Dad, I promise!") say this so as not to hurt their adoptive parents who are proudly watching them on television or sitting in the audience.  The adoptee doesn't want to appear too eager!  He, or she, fears being "abandoned" a second time (first by the original family and second by the adoptive family).  Adoptees sacrifice themselves and their needs; they remain "handicapped."  Their medical information often is not as important (Although, sometimes it is dire, a matter of life and death!) as questions like, "What was my name before?  What did you name me?  Do I have any brothers and sisters?  Is my father full-blooded Italian?"  Questions even an idiot wants to know about himself, or herself!

That fear of being abandoned a second time is overwhelming. It kept me from looking for my birth mother for decades. I was 39---seeing my friends get breast cancer---when I finally realized that there were many personal reasons, including family medical history, for my wanting to find her.
